This project aims to enable university students to acquire essential AI competencies in response to the era of artificial intelligence (AI) transformation, by supporting curriculum development and strengthening the AI capabilities of faculty members.

The project period runs until February 2028, and Seoul Women's University will receive 300 million won for the first year, covering from April 2024 to February 2027. Through this project, the university will introduce and operate a new “Integrated AI Education Model for Cultural Literacy and Micro-Majors Aimed at Human Understanding and Social Innovation.”

The core of the model is to start with an understanding of humanity, and then systematically connect basic AI liberal arts courses with micro-majors in each academic field, helping all students develop not only foundational knowledge but also practical problem-solving skills based on their majors.

First, in the liberal arts curriculum, eight new basic courses will be developed to enhance students’ AI literacy and application skills. Among them, courses such as “Reading the AI Era” and “AI and Gender” will also be produced as K-MOOC (Korean Massive Open Online Course) content, and will be made freely available not only to enrolled students but also to the general public.

Additionally, customized micro-majors will be established across four non-engineering fields-humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and arts. Specifically, the following will be offered: “AI Narrative” by the School of Global ICT and Humanities Convergence, “AX Media Design” by the Department of Media and Communication, “Smart Nutrition Social Innovation” by the Department of Food and Nutrition, and “AI Creative Design” by the Department of Visual Design. Each major will follow a shared educational framework that begins with AI education based on human understanding, integrates major-specific interdisciplinary education, and leads to social innovation.

Programs to strengthen AI capabilities will also be greatly expanded for faculty members. A variety of programs will be implemented, including “Rethinking Classes in the AI Era” for all faculty, “AI Teaching Competency Online Self-Assessment,” “AI Imagination Workshop,” and “SWU-APP (AI-Partnered Professor),” a collaborative model between engineering and non-engineering faculty.

Seoul Women's University plans to share its newly developed AI courses in a modular package and K-MOOC format so that other universities can easily use them. In addition, through operating a sharing council and holding performance-sharing events, the university intends to widely disseminate its outstanding educational achievements both within and beyond the institution.

Baik Seonyoung, Director of the Center for Educational Innovation at Seoul Women's University, said, “This project will be an important first step in fully implementing Seoul Women's University’s unique integrated AI education model, which sequentially links AI liberal arts and micro-majors starting from an understanding of humanity.”
