Chairman Jung Wonjoo of Daewoo E&C: "Promoting Smart Cities and Arenas in Vietnam"

Jung Wonjoo, Chairman of Daewoo Engineering & Construction, attended the Korea-Vietnam Business Roundtable held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the 23rd and said, "Through the construction of convergent smart cities that incorporate culture and large-scale arenas, we aim to contribute to cultural exchanges between the two countries and to Vietnam's economic growth."


Chairman Jung visited Vietnam as a member of the economic delegation accompanying President Lee Jaemyung's state visit, which began on the 21st for a four-day schedule. The Korea-Vietnam Business Roundtable held that day was attended by President Lee, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, officials from both governments, and executives from major companies. Chairman Jung shared the company's achievements and experiences in the local market and expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the Vietnamese government.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction is carrying out new city development projects locally. The company led the Starlake development project, which is considered a successful example of exporting a Korean-style new city, and is also conducting urban development projects in areas such as Hung Yen Province. In addition to construction, the company has engaged in investment and development projects that encompass project implementation. Daewoo Engineering & Construction has also announced plans to contribute to the advancement of local digital infrastructure by building large-scale arenas for performances and sports events, as well as data centers expected to see high demand in the future. The company also conveyed its intention to participate in the North-South high-speed railway and nuclear power plant projects, which are being promoted as national projects by the Vietnamese government.


On this day, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SaigonTel, a Vietnamese information technology and infrastructure development company, for joint participation in local data center projects. Going forward, they agreed to cooperate on the design, procurement, and construction (EPC) of local data centers, as well as on joint investment projects. A company representative said, "Vietnam is one of our key strategic markets and a trusted partner. Based on this relationship, we plan to expand continuous investment and cooperation in a wide range of areas, including nuclear power plants and high-speed railways, urban development, and data centers."


During this visit, Chairman Jung attended the completion ceremony of the B2CC1 Complex Development Project on the 22nd. The project is a large-scale complex in Starlake City, consisting of two buildings with three basement levels and 35 above-ground floors, totaling 211,462 square meters, and includes offices, hotels, and commercial facilities. Korean companies participated in every stage of the project, from implementation and investment to construction, under the leadership of Daewoo Engineering & Construction. KDB Industrial Bank and KB Securities also joined as investors.

The completion ceremony was attended by Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Trung Viet Trung, Vice Mayor of Hanoi, Nguyen Quoc Hiep, Chairman of the Vietnam Construction Association, Han Manhee, Chairman of the Overseas Construction Association, Kim Bokhwan, President of Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND), and other key officials from both countries. Chairman Jung stated, "The B3CC1 Complex Development Project is a symbol of Korea-Vietnam economic cooperation and holds great significance."


On the same day, Chairman Jung met with Le Ngoc Lam, President of the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank, to explain local business plans and request cooperation and investment.
