POSCO Steelion announced on April 24 that it has begun targeting the global data center market by supplying its hot-dip aluminum-coated steel sheet, "ALCOSTA," for a hyperscale data center construction project in Australia.
POSCO Steelion explained that ALCOSTA has been selected as a key material in the project recently undertaken by a global information technology company. The company did not disclose the supply volume or contract amount.
This project involves a hyperscale data center that will house tens of thousands of servers, requiring materials that can ensure stable operation even in high-heat and high-power environments. POSCO Steelion stated that ALCOSTA was ultimately chosen for meeting these stringent requirements.
ALCOSTA is a product with an aluminum coating on the steel surface, and is characterized by its excellent corrosion and heat resistance under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions. It also guarantees fire safety and long-term durability, and is equipped with electromagnetic shielding capabilities.
Furthermore, it is designed to suppress the "Zinc Whisker" issue that can occur with conventional galvanized steel sheets, thereby minimizing the generation of fine metallic particles that could affect data center equipment.
POSCO Steelion stated, "Having our product applied to a core infrastructure project of a global IT company is a testament to our technological strength and quality competitiveness," adding, "We will expand the supply of premium steel products, focusing on high-value-added markets such as data centers."
