This issuance comes ahead of May, which is known as Family Month in Korea. The district plans to ease the financial burden on households and create a virtuous cycle where increased spending leads to higher sales for local businesses. Previously, in January, the district also issued 15 billion won worth of gift certificates for the Lunar New Year holiday to help stabilize livelihoods.

The certificates will be sold through the Seoul Pay Plus App. They can be purchased at a 5% discount, and 30% of the amount spent can be deducted from taxable income during year-end tax settlements. Each person can buy up to 500,000 won per month, with a maximum holding limit of 1.5 million won. The certificates must be used at participating merchants in Seongdong-gu within five years of purchase. Everything from purchasing and payment to checking affiliate stores can be managed through the Seoul Pay Plus App.

A district official said, "Although everyone is facing difficulties due to surging prices, we hope that the issuance of the Seongdong Love Gift Certificates will be a reliable support for households and a catalyst to energize local small businesses. In May, a month for sharing family warmth, we hope that the use of these certificates will help the local economy thrive."
