The Hyeonchungsa Management Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 24th that it will hold a commemorative event at Hyeonchungsa on the 28th at 3 p.m. to mark the 481st anniversary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's birth.
The main event, Darye (traditional tea ceremony), consists of three rituals: the Chohenrye, in which the director of the Hyeonchungsa Management Office acts as the chief officiant and conducts incense burning and wine offering while the master of ceremonies reads the congratulatory address; the Aheonrye, in which a representative of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's descendants offers wine; and the Jongheonrye, in which a citizen officiant makes the offering. The citizen officiant is selected from among last year's winners of the Nanjung Ilgi book report contest.
On the same day, a special lecture will be held at the Hyeonchungsa Education Center auditorium under the theme "Admiral Yi Sun-sin Who Protected the People, Hyeonchungsa Established by the People." At the old house of Hyeonchungsa, visitors can experience traditional tea etiquette at the "Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Old House Maru Tea Ceremony Experience," while at the Hyeonchungsa archery range, the "Presidential Cup National Archery Competition between Cities and Provinces" will take place.
From May 1 to 3, the "Great Hero Yi Sun-sin Festival and Hyeonchungsa Moonlight Night Walk" will be held. Starting with the Yi Sun-sin Creative Poetry Recitation Contest, national competitions in poetry, calligraphy, and painting-including the Nanjung Ilgi Writing Contest-will be held. There will also be performances of national intangible cultural heritage such as tightrope walking, mask dance, and traditional Korean music, as well as taekwondo demonstration team performances, LED shows, traditional game experiences, and more.
