U.S. President Donald Trump on April 23 (local time) ordered the U.S. Navy to fire upon and sink any vessel laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. This statement is interpreted as targeting Iran, which has been laying mines and seizing ships.
President Trump stated on Truth Social the same day, "I have instructed the U.S. Navy to shoot and kill any vessel, no matter how small, that is laying mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz."
Regarding U.S. military mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, President Trump also added, "Continue this activity, but I am ordering it to be tripled in scale."
In a subsequent post, he referenced Iran's state of division, declaring, "Iran is 'Sealed up Tight' until it is able to negotiate!!"
President Trump remarked, "Iran is having tremendous difficulty figuring out who their leader is right now!" He pointed out, "The internal struggle is raging between the so-called 'hardliners,' who are suffering heavy defeats on the battlefield, and the so-called 'moderates' (not moderate at all, but respected!), and it is a totally crazy situation!"
He further stated, "We have total control of the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "No vessel can enter or exit without the approval of the U.S. Navy."
