Shin Youngho, a member of the Chungnam Provincial Assembly, and Han Manhyung, former secretary to the Governor of Chungnam Province, criticized Park Soo-hyun, the Democratic Party candidate for Governor of Chungnam Province, over his "Seocheon No. 1 Pledge."
Following the local Chungnam branch of the People Power Party, the criticism against Park has intensified as current provincial assembly members and former key government officials have joined in.
On April 23, the Chungnam branch of the People Power Party stated, "The Democratic Party is turning the reconstruction of Seocheon Specialty Market into a political issue ahead of the local elections, using the slight delay caused by the construction company's court receivership as an excuse," and added, "Do not exploit the merchants’ pain for political gain."
Assemblyman Shin also posted on his social media that "the reconstruction of Seocheon Specialty Market is an ongoing project," and directly questioned, "It is necessary to ask what has been done during the opening of the temporary market and the subsequent support process."
He further pointed out, "It is irresponsible politics to use the merchants' desperation as a tool for the election by certain political circles."
He especially emphasized, "Even though the process of reselecting the construction company is underway and preparations for resuming construction are being made, presenting this as the 'No. 1 pledge' as if nothing has been done is an oversimplification of the facts and only increases anxiety among county residents," adding, "What merchants need is the completion of the ongoing project."
He added, "Do not calculate the merchants' tears as votes."

He stated, "At the time of the fire, Governor Kim Taeheum of Chungnam Province personally managed the site and took steps to address the situation, opening a temporary market in just three months," and added, "Through government support equivalent to a special disaster area and securing state funds, a reconstruction plan was quickly established."
He further noted, "Putting forward the 'No. 1 pledge' when the reconstruction is about to resume is nothing more than a political frame," and criticized, "It is not right to use the pain of the community as campaign material."
The People Power Party reiterated its position, stating, "The Seocheon Specialty Market issue is already being resolved administratively," and emphasized, "The stable completion of the project must be the priority over political disputes."
