The Jeonja Village area near Hoeryong Station is a historically significant site where Yi Seong-gye and Yi Bangwon, founders of the Joseon Dynasty, reconciled their differences and opened a new era. It is also known as the origin of the name "Uijeongbu." Highlighting this meaning, Mayor Kim stated, "This is a starting point where we moved beyond conflict toward unity and ushered in a new era," and added, "On the foundation of this historical symbolism, I will further enhance the future of Uijeongbu and the value of its citizens."
In particular, Mayor Kim expressed his deep affection for Howon-dong and emphasized the changes achieved over the past four years. He restored Jungnangcheon, Hoeryongcheon, and Howoncheon streams as ecological spaces for the citizens and resolved the issue of relocating the Howon-dong Reserve Forces Training Center through civic discussion forums. He also explained that he has driven tangible changes in daily life, such as launching the "Hoeryong Street Arts Festival," which brings together culture and local businesses around Hoeryong Station.
Howon-dong is considered a region with strong potential to become a future growth hub for Uijeongbu, especially if the GTX-C line and Subway Line 8 extension projects proceed, building on the achievement of attracting Daewoong Group to the former US military base Camp Jackson.
The campaign strategy for this election also aims to differentiate itself from previous approaches. Mayor Kim's team has decided to forego large-scale opening ceremonies and formal events, focusing instead on a "field-oriented campaign" that emphasizes direct communication with citizens. This is interpreted as a reflection of their commitment to prioritizing citizens' lives over political interests.
Mayor Kim stated, "This election should begin not with politics, but with the lives of citizens," and added, "By focusing on solving key issues in Uijeongbu, such as jobs and transportation, I will stand by the citizens and work together to build a better future."
