Gwangju Buk-gu will officially launch its "Reading Culture Program Support Project for People with Disabilities" to improve reading accessibility and expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for people with disabilities.

The National Library for the Disabled reviewed customized program proposals from libraries nationwide, tailored to four types of disabilities: visual, hearing, developmental, and physical. As all public libraries in the district were selected, Buk-gu plans to launch reading programs reflecting the specific needs of people with disabilities from next month, aiming to bridge the information gap.

In particular, this project will be conducted in the form of a "visiting service," where librarians and instructors go directly to welfare centers for the disabled or special education classrooms, taking into account the mobility needs of people with disabilities. Each library will operate the program for a total of 10 to 15 sessions.

The detailed curriculum will consist of experiential education that stimulates the five senses, such as cognitive play, art activities, and board games after reading books together. After the program concludes, Buk-gu will conduct a survey of participants and actively reflect the results in the future design of library policies.

A Buk-gu official stated, "We hope this program will lower the barriers to reading for people with disabilities and help alleviate their cultural thirst," adding, "We will continue to work closely with related organizations to create an inclusive reading culture environment so that people with disabilities can enjoy a happy and discrimination-free daily life."
