Korea Expressway Corporation announced that, in response to recent complex internal and external crises, it is entering an emergency management system starting April 23, 2026. On this day, Acting President Lee Sang-jae presided over an expanded emergency management meeting with senior executives and established a task force (TF) centered on executives to review key management issues.
This measure was taken because the company judged that the situation, both internally and externally, is challenging due to factors such as ongoing high oil prices caused by the war in the Middle East, supply instability of construction materials, and a seasonal increase in traffic accidents during spring. The corporation explained that even in the absence of a permanent president, this action aims to ensure the uninterrupted fulfillment of its role as a public institution and to provide stable services that citizens can tangibly experience.
During the meeting, participants discussed measures to stabilize fuel prices and ensure a stable supply of oil at expressway gas stations, as well as ways to ease the economic burden on citizens, such as the temporary exemption of toll fees for route buses and late-night cargo trucks. To address supply instability of construction materials such as asphalt concrete, they reviewed strategies for adjusting usage periods between agencies and continuously monitoring the supply situation. The meeting also discussed operating a joint public-private accident investigation team as a practical measure to develop effective traffic accident prevention strategies.

In addition, to strengthen the field-oriented crisis management system, executives at headquarters have been designated as regional managers. A field task inspection team, composed mainly of working-level staff, will be operated continuously to manage customer-facing facilities such as rest areas and gas stations.
Acting President Lee Sang-jae stated, "Given the grave situation due to internal and external uncertainties, we must fulfill our responsibilities as a public institution based on strict discipline in public service," and added, "We will do our utmost to minimize inconvenience to the public, ensure expressway safety, and stabilize people's livelihoods."
