A man in his 40s was apprehended by police after a passenger reported him for walking around a subway train holding a lighter and an aerosol insecticide.
According to Yonhap News on April 23, at around 8:30 a.m. that day, a passenger on a subway train bound for Ansim and heading towards Jincheon Station on Daegu Metro Line 1 spotted the man, identified as Mr. A, in his 40s. At the time, Mr. A was wandering the train holding a lighter and an aerosol insecticide. Finding this suspicious, the passenger reported to the police, stating, "There is a suspected arson attempt."
Upon receiving the report, the police waited at Jincheon Station and arrested Mr. A on the spot when the subway arrived, charging him with attempted arson of an inhabited structure. The insecticide Mr. A was holding was identified as a flammable substance. After his arrest, Mr. A reportedly refused to answer questions regarding the details of the incident.
A police official stated, "We will determine whether Mr. A actually attempted arson by analyzing closed-circuit (CC) TV footage and other evidence." The police plan to review the findings comprehensively and decide on the final charges to be applied.
