Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of Education for Busan, has officially declared his candidacy for the June 3 local elections and has begun his campaign activities as a preliminary candidate.
On April 23, at his campaign office on Seojeon-ro in Busanjin-gu, Kim held a press conference and stated, "Building on the achievements of the past nine years, I will lead Busan education not just toward normalization, but toward a transition to the future."
Superintendent Kim summarized his tenure in three phases: 'Foundation Building - Takeoff - Normalization,' and defined the next four years as a 'period of future transition.' He explained that over the past year, he has resolved confusion and placed education back on the path to normalization.

원본보기 아이콘He also highlighted his achievements, noting that he achieved a 'triple crown' by receiving the highest rating in the Ministry of Education's metropolitan/provincial education office evaluations, restoring integrity, and being awarded an A grade as a Special Education Development District. He added that his pledge fulfillment rate reached 114.1%.
His core pledges include: ▲ AI-based future education ▲ Reinforcement of 'genuine academic ability' focused on literacy and problem-solving skills ▲ Creation of a safe educational environment ▲ Alleviation of the financial burden of education.
To expand AI education, he emphasized support for generative AI for teachers and students and strengthening AI and maker education infrastructure across different regions. He aims to reduce dependence on private education by establishing a growth foundation centered on public education.
In the field of educational welfare, he plans to fully subsidize school trip expenses and field trip fees, and expand support for gym uniforms for new high school students. He will also strengthen support for special education and multicultural education students.
Superintendent Kim stated, "I am not just someone with experience but a superintendent proven by achievements," and pledged, "I will ensure the future transition of Busan education is fully accomplished."
On this day, Superintendent Kim completed his preliminary candidate registration and announced his intention to run a policy-centered campaign.
