"Spring in Jeongeup, Full of Hanok Charm"... Kim Myunggwan Old House, Where Time Stands Still

Jeongeup City to Improve Yard Soil and Drainage at the Kim Myunggwan Old House Through May 7

Warm spring has arrived beyond the walls first. The Kim Myunggwan Old House, a national folk cultural heritage site, is nestled deep in Sanwoe-myeon, Jeongeup-si. Spring flowers bloom gracefully atop the stone walls, which have stood for centuries, and gentle spring sunlight quietly settles between the soft eaves of the Hanok. In this season that requires no hurry, the old house silently welcomes its visitors.

This place, which has fully preserved the typical form of a Joseon-era nobleman's house, is filled with fresh vitality throughout the inner quarters and the sarangchae as spring arrives. Old wooden columns and newly sprouted light green grass leaves harmoniously blend, creating a natural meeting of landscapes from different eras within a single frame.

At the back, Changha Mountain encircles the house like a folding screen, while to the front, the upper reaches of the Dongjin River flow quietly-a classic example of a site with mountains behind and water in front. Known as the "house with ninety-nine rooms" for its grand scale, the old house reveals an even deeper and dignified presence beneath the wide spring sky. The green of distant mountains and the pink of nearby flowers fill the inside and outside of the walls, and footsteps slow down as one walks through them.

To better preserve the old house for a longer time, Jeongeup City is currently carrying out yard soil improvement and drainage maintenance work until May 7. While parts of the viewing route may be inconvenient during this period, on-site guidance has been strengthened to ensure visitors can look around safely. Once the construction is completed, the old house will embrace spring once again with a renewed appearance.

An official from Jeongeup City stated, "The Kim Myunggwan Old House is a valuable cultural heritage of Jeongeup, where nature and traditional architecture exist in perfect harmony," and added, "We hope families and couples will visit and enjoy a relaxing spring day amid the tranquil atmosphere of this historic home."
