A woman in her 20s, who was a winner of a regional preliminary round in a Mexican beauty pageant, was found dead from a gunshot wound in an apartment in Mexico City. According to reports, her husband told prosecutors that his mother fired the gun after arguing with his wife. Local prosecutors are currently investigating the circumstances of the case.
According to Mexican daily newspapers El Universal, Reforma, and others on April 22 (local time), Carolina Flores Gomez, age 27, was found dead from a gunshot wound on April 15 in an apartment located in the upscale Polanco neighborhood of Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City.
Carolina was a former model and was known as the winner of the regional preliminary round of the Miss Teen Universe Baja California pageant.
Reports state that at the time of the incident, both her husband Alejandro and her mother-in-law Erika Maria were present at the scene. The husband reported the incident to the public prosecutor's office on the 16th, one day after it occurred, and is said to have testified during the investigation that "my mother fired the gun after arguing with my wife." It was also reported that their eight-month-old son was in the apartment at the time.
However, the security guard of the apartment testified that he did not hear any gunshots or notice any suspicious activity on the night of the 15th.
The Mexico City Prosecutor's Office stated that since the 16th, it has been conducting on-site inspections, securing evidence, and questioning those involved, while also providing support for the bereaved family.
Local media have reported that the prosecution is investigating the circumstances of the case, noting several factors: possible tampering with the building's security camera footage, evidence that someone attempted to clean up blood at the scene, and the approximately 24-hour delay in reporting the incident.
