"From 60 Years of Science and Technology to the Future of AI"... Korea Science and Technology Expo Opens

The National Research Foundation of Korea is holding a large-scale exhibition to showcase achievements in science and technology in celebration of Science Month. This year’s "Korea Science and Technology Expo" is distinguished by its focus on four core directions encompassing the past, present, and future. The venue features four themed zones, allowing visitors to experience the progress and future changes in science and technology in a variety of ways.

The National Research Foundation announced that the "2026 Korea Science and Technology Expo" will be held from April 24 to April 26 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Held under the slogan "Imagination Becomes Everyday: A Changed Daily Life, An Approaching Future," the event offers hands-on exhibitions and programs that demonstrate how science and technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), are integrated into daily life. Since 2024, the event has been held in conjunction with the "Korea Science Festival," combining a public participatory festival with an exhibition of national research and development (R&D) achievements.

The centerpiece of the event, the "National R&D Zone," highlights 60 years of achievements in Korean science and technology and introduces "NEXT National Strategic Technologies" such as artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, and quantum technology. The "National R&D Project Achievement Hall" brings together major accomplishments from basic and fundamental research to research addressing climate and energy challenges. In addition, a "story-based exhibition" will showcase both the challenges and failures encountered during the research process.

There will also be a special exhibition focusing on carbon dioxide capture and utilization (CCU) technologies, introducing key technologies necessary for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In the "Future Lifestyle Zone," visitors can experience lifestyle changes driven by AI-based technologies, while the "Culture and Experience Zone" offers programs combining science and the arts. The "Communication and Sharing Zone" features audience-participation programs, including career exploration in STEM fields and lectures by scientists.

By presenting major policy agendas such as national strategic technologies, carbon neutrality, and artificial intelligence (AI) through interactive content, the expo aims to enhance the social dissemination of science and technology and strengthen public communication.

Hong Wonhwa, President of the National Research Foundation of Korea, stated, "Science and technology are now the core driving forces that extend beyond laboratories to shape the daily lives of citizens and national competitiveness. I hope this Science and Technology Expo will serve as an opportunity to share the achievements of research sites with the public and explore new leaps for the future."
