Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will launch the 'Just Dream' project starting next month.
'Just Dream' is a program that provides food support to those facing financial hardship without complicated documentation procedures. The Ministry of Health and Welfare initiated this program in December last year, and currently, 129 'Just Dream' sites are being operated in 68 cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
Suwon City plans to operate a 'Just Dream' site within Haenuri Food Market during May.
Previously, Suwon City has been operating a similar initiative called the 'Suwon Shared Refrigerator' for the past eight years. The shared refrigerator, created in cooperation with civil society, is a communal refrigerator where anyone can stock food, and those in need can take it as necessary.
This is part of the 'Love·Sharing·Sharing Project', which aims to restore the local community by creating an organic 'food network' in the neighborhood. It also helps reduce food waste.
An official from Suwon City stated, "The shared refrigerator is more than just a place to share food; it is a space where neighbors build trust and restore the community," adding, "We will strive to expand the Suwon Shared Refrigerator throughout the neighborhoods."
