Democratic Party's Gwangju Chapter Finalizes Candidates in 19 Metropolitan Council Primaries

All Five Districts Finalized Through 100% Party Member Voting
Additional Selection Procedures Remain Due to Constituency Integration
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea has completed the nomination primaries for candidates running for metropolitan council seats in Gwangju ahead of the June 3 local elections.
The Gwangju City Chapter Election Commission of the Democratic Party announced the results of the primaries on April 22, 2026. The primaries were conducted through a vote by party members with voting rights over two days starting April 21. The process covered 19 constituencies across five autonomous districts: Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, and Gwangsan-gu.
In Dong-gu, Hong Giwol (Constituency 1) and No Jinseong (Constituency 2) advanced through the primaries. In Seo-gu, Kang Suhun (Constituency 1), Oh Miseop (Constituency 2), and Sim Cheolui (Constituency 4) were selected. In Nam-gu, Kang Wonho (Constituency 1), No Soyoung (Constituency 2), and Park Sangkil (Constituency 3) became primary finalists.
In Buk-gu, An Pyeonghwan (Constituency 1), Kim Geonan (Constituency 2), Lee Sookhee (Constituency 3), Cho Seokho (Constituency 4), Joo Sunil (Constituency 5), and Heo Seokjin (Constituency 6) passed the primaries. In Gwangsan-gu, Han Guirye (Constituency 1), Lee Yeongsun (Constituency 2), Lee Younghoon (Constituency 3), Lee Guisun (Constituency 4), and Kim Gwangran (Constituency 5) were finalized as candidates for the main election.
Due to the increase in the number of metropolitan council seats following the integration of some constituencies, additional selection procedures for certain seats will be conducted separately.
