The Changgyeonggung Palace Management Office of the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center will hold the "Flowers of King Jeongjo" event twice on May 8 at the Changgyeonggung Grand Greenhouse Education Center to commemorate Parents' Day.
This event is based on the treasure "Bongsudangjinchando (奉壽堂進饌圖)." The painting depicts the 60th birthday banquet prepared by King Jeongjo for his mother, Lady Hyegyeong Hong, at Bongsudang in Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in 1795. Notably, in front of King Jeongjo's seat, the painting shows a tray of Seondo (the legendary peaches said to ripen once every three thousand years), symbolizing health and longevity.
Participants will learn about King Jeongjo's filial piety as embodied in Bongsudangjinchando and make "peach blossom lanterns for filial piety" to express their wishes for their parents' longevity.
