Kyobo Life Insurance Deploys Second Son to SBI Savings Bank... Accelerates 'Synergy' Enhancement

Shin Junghyun, the second son of Shin Changjae, Chairman of Kyobo Life Insurance, and Head of Digital Strategy at Kyobo Lifeplanet, has moved to the "Synergy Team" under the Management Strategy Division at SBI Savings Bank. This move comes immediately after Kyobo Life Insurance completed its acquisition of SBI Savings Bank, and it is interpreted as a strategic effort by the group to strengthen synergies by relocating the third-generation owner, Shin Junghyun, to the savings bank.

According to Kyobo Life Insurance on April 22, Shin Junghyun was transferred to the position of Head of the "Synergy Team" under the Management Strategy Division at SBI Savings Bank as of April 21. This team is responsible for developing collaborative models between Kyobo Life Insurance and SBI Savings Bank, as well as driving new digital and AI-based business initiatives. Although Shin holds the title of team leader, it is known that his official rank is that of an entry-level employee.

This personnel change took place immediately after Kyobo Life Insurance acquired a 50% plus one share stake from SBI Holdings, thereby incorporating the savings bank as a subsidiary. Through this acquisition, Kyobo Life Insurance aims to accelerate its transformation into a comprehensive financial group by adding lending functions to its insurance-centered business structure.

The two companies plan to combine the strengths of insurance and savings banking to expand productive finance, including the growth of mid-interest rate loans and financial support for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as mid-sized companies. Chairman Shin Changjae has reportedly emphasized the competitiveness of SBI Savings Bank and called for increased collaboration within the group. Given that Shin Junghyun is a third-generation owner, there is speculation that he could eventually ascend to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after gaining step-by-step management experience.

Born in 1983 and a graduate of Columbia University in the United States, Shin Junghyun joined Kyobo Lifeplanet in 2020 after working at an SBI Holdings affiliate. Within Kyobo Life Insurance, his older brother, Shin Jungha, serves as Executive Director in charge of insurance and strategy, thereby establishing a division of roles between the brothers.
