Hyungdeok Park, preliminary candidate for mayor of Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province, officially announced his candidacy for the 9th term mayoral election of Dongducheon on the 22nd, expressing his ambition by stating, "I will lead an uninterrupted city administration for a greater leap forward for Dongducheon and a better life for its citizens."

원본보기 아이콘At a press conference held that day, Park emphasized, "Dongducheon cannot afford to waste time identifying current issues," adding, "Only a 'competent mayor,' proven through 12 years of legislative experience and four years of practical achievements as mayor, can create a sustainable Dongducheon."
Regarding his achievements during the 8th term, he explained, "We have managed to put major longstanding issues, which had been at a standstill for a long time, on the path to resolution. I have focused on restarting stalled projects and laying the foundations for the city."
He cited the following as major accomplishments of the 8th term: selection of a specialized public rental housing project near Jihaeng Station; the full-scale implementation of a project to revitalize and redevelop the former red-light districts (Saengyeon 2-dong, Jungang-dong); designation as a leading district for educational advancement; and the successful attraction of the Dongducheon Campus of Korea Polytechnic University. He assessed, "Tasks that had long been stagnant have now moved into concrete implementation stages."

원본보기 아이콘For his future vision, Park presented 'urban structural improvement' as the key concept. He outlined plans to drive structural change across all sectors-including the economy, welfare, education, transportation, and environment-going beyond simple outward development.
He plans to revitalize the local economy to create more quality jobs, enhance the stability of citizens' lives through welfare policies tailored to daily needs, and strengthen the city's residential environment by improving educational and transportation infrastructure.
In addition, in the area of urban environment, Park pledged to create a pleasant and safe foundation for daily living, thereby improving citizens' quality of life and accelerating the transition to a sustainable city.
Park emphasized, "The transformation of Dongducheon is still underway, and now is the decisive moment to complete that transformation."
