LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) has signed an export contract with Malaysia for its Haegung ship-to-air missile. This marks the first overseas export of Haegung, a guided weapon system designed for ship defense.
On April 22 (local time), LIG D&A and the Malaysian Ministry of Defense held a contract signing ceremony at the defense industry exhibition 'DSA 2026' in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first export contract between LIG D&A and the Malaysian Ministry of Defense, with a total value of 94 million dollars, or approximately 140 billion won.
Haegung is a defensive guided missile developed with domestic technology by LIG D&A, in cooperation with the Agency for Defense Development, to counter a variety of threats such as incoming guided missiles and aircraft targeting naval vessels. It features an ultra-high-frequency radar sensor and an infrared imaging dual-mode seeker, which ensure high accuracy.
Haegung is scheduled to be installed on Malaysian Navy littoral patrol vessels built by Turkish defense company STM. This is the first case in which LIG D&A has exported its system in collaboration with an overseas platform company.
LIG D&A plans to continue introducing its advanced technological capabilities, including multi-layered integrated air defense solutions, to Southeast Asia and global markets as part of its efforts to expand exports.
