Hwaseong City Selected for "Gyeonggi-do AI Challenge Program"...To Launch "AI Disaster Control Platform"

Hwaseong City Develops Three Major Disaster Prediction Models
for Fires, Heatwaves, and Bridge Collapses
Over 330 Million Won in Provincial and Private Funding by November

Hwaseong Special City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 22 that it has been finally selected for the "Gyeonggi-do 2026 AI Challenge Program," organized by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Institute of Science & Technology Promotion. The city will now officially launch the "Intelligent Disaster Control Platform Construction Project," which integrates public data and artificial intelligence (AI).

This project will invest a total of 335 million won by November this year, which includes 300 million won from provincial funds and 35 million won from the private sector. The city plans to establish an advanced disaster response system by leveraging data integration and AI-based predictive technologies.

The core of the project is to minimize malfunctions and enhance the accuracy of the smart control system by combining AI’s initial predictions with visual cross-verification by control center operators.

The main components of the project include: ▲ Developing models to predict the ignition point and hazardous gas spread routes in case of factory fires ▲ Building customized heatwave risk prediction models tailored to specific regions and targets beyond conventional temperature advisories ▲ Developing predictive models that analyze the load-bearing performance of aging bridges based on real-time vibration data to detect collapse risks in advance.

Additionally, the results of these analyses will be visualized for intuitive understanding. By linking these with the city’s control platform to automatically display CCTV footage from high-risk areas, an integrated control environment will be established where both AI detection and operator judgment occur simultaneously.

The project will be led by Hwaseong Special City, with participation from ESTech ENG and Geomexsoft, both of which specialize in disaster solution AI. Notably, ESTech ENG is a local company, adding significance to region-based technological collaboration.

The city plans to use this project as a stepping stone to expand disaster prediction and response services utilizing AI technology, and to continuously strengthen smart safety services that citizens can tangibly experience.

Park Seunghyun, Head of the AI Smart Strategy Office, said, "Being selected for this program will serve as an opportunity for the public sector and local AI specialists to cooperate in enhancing citizen safety," adding, "We will continue to discover innovative services based on data and AI to strengthen our competitiveness as an 'AI First City.'"
