Hwaseong Special City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 22 that it will provide the "2026 Infant and Toddler Growth Development Allowance" to ease the childcare burden on families with young children entering daycare centers and kindergartens for the first time, and to support the healthy growth of children.

The allowance is available to children born in 2022 who reside in Hwaseong Special City as of April 2026. Eligible recipients must be receiving the Child Allowance that month, and must not be receiving the Childcare Allowance at the same time.

The support amount is 200,000 won, paid once a year. It can be used to purchase items needed for entering daycare centers or kindergartens, such as bags and gym clothes, as well as childcare products necessary for growth and development.

The allowance will be paid without a separate application process, and will be deposited in a lump sum at the end of April into the same account used for the April Child Allowance payment.

Eligibility requirements include all three of the following: children born in 2022 residing in Hwaseong Special City; recipients of the Child Allowance in April 2026; and non-recipients of the Childcare Allowance in April 2026.

Heejeong Lee, Director of Gender Equality and Family, stated, "The Infant and Toddler Growth Development Allowance was established to reduce the financial burden on families at the beginning of daycare and kindergarten enrollment, and to support children's stable adaptation." She added, "We will continue to promote highly effective childcare policies to create a more child-friendly environment going forward."
