Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soohee) announced on April 22 that the Gangdong-gu Resource Circulation Center received the ‘Green Building Award’ in the Building category at the ‘2026 Green Building Day’ event hosted by the Korea Green Building Council (KGBC) on April 17.
The Green Building Award, now in its sixth year, is a prestigious prize that recognizes outstanding cases in the fields of design, technology, and policy for eco-friendly and low-energy green buildings that meet international standards. Recipients are selected through a review process by a special judging panel (TFT) comprising experts such as professors, architects, energy assessors, and researchers.
At this year’s ceremony, a total of ten organizations and individuals were honored in four categories: Buildings, Organizations, Individuals, and Achievement Awards. The Gangdong-gu Resource Circulation Center was recognized in the Building category.
The Gangdong-gu Resource Circulation Center (272, Arisu-ro 87-gil) is an eco-friendly waste-to-resource complex newly constructed in October last year after the demolition of the former ground-level food waste recycling center. The facility was entirely relocated underground and modernized.
The Resource Circulation Center was awarded the highest ‘Green Grade 1’ certification for green buildings in December last year, in recognition of its contributions to achieving carbon neutrality and promoting green architecture. For this award, the facility was highly praised for actively incorporating energy efficiency improvements and eco-friendly design elements throughout the entire construction process.
Mayor Lee Soohee commented, “This award is the result of our district’s efforts to create eco-friendly public buildings as a practical response to the climate crisis and to implement carbon neutrality. We will continue to promote environmental policies that can be felt in everyday life.”
