Hwaseong City announced that from April 21 to May 8, it will conduct on-site safety inspections of the Hwanggeum Coastal Road construction section in a total of three phases. This inspection is a measure to ensure the complete safety of the marine deck section where citizens can walk above the sea.

In particular, this inspection involves the “Safety Management Advisory Group,” comprised of 17 experts in civil engineering, architecture, electrical, gas, landscaping, water supply, and sewage, to enhance expertise and objectivity. The first phase of inspection will be carried out by the advisory group, the second phase will involve senior city officials such as the policy chief and the director of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, and the third phase will be an on-site inspection conducted by the first deputy mayor, district mayors, and others.

The inspection focuses on the 4.4-kilometer marine deck section of the total 17-kilometer Hwanggeum Coastal Road. It will comprehensively check the connections between structures, handrail safety, anti-slip facilities, nighttime lighting, and the installation status of safety facilities.

Hwaseong City plans to immediately implement corrective measures for any hazards or areas needing improvement discovered during the inspection process and aims to resolve all identified issues before the temporary opening.

Kim Myungsook, Director of Tourism Promotion, stated, “As the Hwanggeum Coastal Road is a major marine tourism infrastructure sought after by citizens and tourists, safety is our top priority. We will block risk factors in advance by conducting both expert and administrative inspections and create a walking environment where citizens can feel safe and secure.”

The project consists of a 4.4-kilometer marine deck and a 12.6-kilometer coastal trail. Construction began in 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
