Daejeon O-World Releases Video of "Neukgu"
O-World: "Neukgu's Health Condition Is Stable"

A video showing Neukgu, the wolf that escaped from Daejeon O-World (zoo) and was captured after nine days, having its first meal has been released. While Neukgu appeared somewhat cautious in front of the food, it is reported that his food intake is gradually improving.

On the 20th, O-World released footage of Neukgu eating through its social media channels. In the one-minute and thirty-four-second video, Neukgu, who is living in an isolated area, appears to be on alert as he surveys his surroundings. He then carefully approaches the area where the food is placed, taking one step at a time.

While eating, Neukgu glances around or pulls his body back at times. After finishing the meal, he backs away toward the entrance where he first appeared and goes inside.

When releasing the video, the O-World team stated, "We are focusing on helping Neukgu recover his condition, and his food intake is gradually increasing." They added, "As of the 20th, Neukgu is in good health, eating and sleeping well under the care of zookeepers and veterinarians." The statement continued, "Please send your warm support so that Neukgu, who is slowly recovering, can return to full health and greet everyone again."

According to O-World, at 2:00 p.m. on this day, which marks the fourth day since Neukgu was captured alive, he ate 1.16 kilograms of ground beef and raw chicken. This is an increase compared to his intake right before being captured. Neukgu ate 980 grams of ground beef and raw chicken on the 19th, and 650 grams on the 18th.

Currently, O-World is conducting inspections and maintenance throughout the facility following Neukgu's escape, and plans to decide on the reopening date once safety is ensured.

Previously, on April 8, Neukgu escaped from Daejeon O-World’s safari by digging under the fence of his enclosure. He was recaptured around midnight on April 17 near the Anyeong Interchange (IC) in Anyeong-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, after being hit with a tranquilizer dart.

Neukgu is currently receiving isolated treatment at the zoo’s hospital and is recovering his health. It has been reported that his food intake is gradually increasing and his condition is stabilizing. He is also undergoing observation for the incubation period to check for any infectious diseases. If no issues are found, he will be reintegrated with his family group.
