Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City to Create Its First Symbol... Temporary CI Design Contest Announced

Applications Accepted Until May 17

Total Prize Pool: 7 Million Won

The contest to design a temporary symbol (CI) that will serve as the first emblem of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, launching in July, has begun. Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do will select the temporary CI for the integrated special city through a public participation process, to be used until the official symbol is established.

On April 21, Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do announced that the “Temporary Symbol (CI) Design Contest for Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City” will be held until May 17. The selected design will be used across various fields-including administration, publicity, and information signage-during preparations for the launch of the integrated special city.

The theme of the contest is to create a symbolic design that reflects the integrated special city’s significance and embodies the hopes and aspirations of citizens and the public. Entries should incorporate the meaning of integration, inheriting the thousand-year history and traditions of Jeolla Province; the spirit of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, the Gwangju Spirit, and the Daedong Spirit; a harmonious future vision between advanced industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and semiconductors, and agriculture and fisheries; and the identity of the city as the cultural hub of Asia.

Any citizen of the Republic of Korea is eligible to participate. Entries may be submitted individually or as a team of up to two people, with a maximum of two submissions per person or team. Applications will be accepted online through the Jeollanam-do website from April 27 to May 17. The contest guidelines and submission forms can be found on the websites of both Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do.

The judging process will include a first round based on symbolism, originality, popularity, aesthetics, and clarity, followed by a public review and a second round of evaluation. The results will be announced in June through the official websites of Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do.

A total of 9 prizes will be awarded. The grand prize winner will receive 2.5 million won, the excellence award winner 1.5 million won, each merit award winner 1 million won, and each encouragement award winner 200,000 won, with a total prize pool of 7 million won.
