Ansan City Appoints World-Renowned Sports Star Kim Yeon-koung as Promotional Ambassador

Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Min-keun) announced on the 21st that on the previous day, former national volleyball player Kim Yeon-koung had been appointed as the city's promotional ambassador.

During the appointment ceremony, Mayor Lee Min-keun of Ansan delivered a plaque of appointment to Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung and shared future directions and activity plans for city promotion.

Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung, who grew up in Ansan, is a symbolic figure who has elevated the status of Korean sports by achieving outstanding results on the global stage as a representative player for Korean women's volleyball. In particular, her performance and leadership in international tournaments and professional leagues have earned her the trust and affection of the public.

She also made a significant contribution to the development of Korean sports by leading the national team to the semifinals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Since retirement, she has remained highly active on the global stage, serving as an advisor for Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders and as a co-owner of the LOVB San Francisco women's volleyball team in the United States.

It is also notable that the sports entertainment program "Rookie Coach Kim Yeon-koung," featuring Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung, was filmed at Sangnoksu Gymnasium, highlighting her ongoing connection with the local area. This naturally showcased Ansan's sports infrastructure and city image, having a positive impact on regional promotion.

With this background, Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung is expected to create a synergistic effect in promotional activities that resonate with citizens, given her deep understanding of Ansan and her symbolic status.

Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung said, "I am deeply honored to be appointed as a promotional ambassador for Ansan City," and added, "I will do my utmost to communicate with citizens through sports and to widely promote Ansan's charm and value."

Mayor Lee Min-keun of Ansan stated, "Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung is one of Korea's most prominent sports stars who has brought honor to the country on the global stage," adding, "Based on her experience growing up in Ansan and her global influence, she is expected to play a significant role in enhancing the city brand value."

Meanwhile, Ansan City is strengthening its city brand competitiveness by appointing promotional ambassadors from various fields, including actors Kim Seok-hoon, Lee Hak-joo, Lee Chung-gu, and billiards player Jung Soo-bin. With the appointment of Ambassador Kim Yeon-koung, the city also plans to further expand its promotional capabilities in the sports sector.
