Yeongcheon City and Cheongdo County are making every effort to develop support measures to overcome the population crisis and stabilize livelihoods.
Yeongcheon City will provide compensation payments to help stabilize the lives of citizens suffering from high oil prices and inflation.
The amount of support will vary depending on the recipient, with payments ranging from 200,000 won to a maximum of 600,000 won per person.
The first round of payments, starting on April 27, will be made to recipients of basic livelihood security, those in the second-lowest income bracket, and single-parent families. The second round, starting on May 18, will be provided to citizens in the bottom 70% income bracket.
The support funds will be provided in the form of credit card or debit card recharges, prepaid cards, or Yeongcheon Love Gift Certificates. To facilitate smooth applications, a day-of-the-week system based on the last digit of the applicant's birth year will be implemented during the first week of the program.
The provided funds can be used at local small businesses and other establishments within the region until August 31.
Cheongdo County is expanding the eligibility for child allowances to ease the financial burden of child-rearing and improve living conditions.
This measure is in accordance with the amendment to the Child Allowance Act, raising the eligible age from under 8 years to under 9 years.
Accordingly, children born between January 2017 and March 2018 who have previously received benefits will be registered automatically without the need for a separate application.
In particular, Cheongdo County will provide an additional 20,000 won per month on its own initiative to support areas with declining populations. As a result, eligible children will receive up to 120,000 won per month, including the existing allowance.
This allowance will be gradually increased by one year each year until 2030, eventually expanding coverage to children under the age of 13. The first payment will be made on April 24.
Through these tailored welfare policies that consider the unique characteristics and economic situations of each region, Yeongcheon City and Cheongdo County are working to enhance residents' sense of welfare and actively respond to the risk of regional extinction.
