Gyeongju has once again proven its status as an international conference city by successfully attracting an international academic conference, often referred to as the "Asian Games" of the microsurgery field.
On April 21, Gyeongju HICO announced that, together with Daegu W Hospital, it had secured the hosting rights for the "Asia-Pacific Federation of Societies for Reconstructive Microsurgery (APFSRM 2030)" in Gyeongju.

The conference will take place at the Gyeongju HICO Convention Center from May 23 over the course of three days in 2030.
More than 1,000 medical professionals and researchers from over 30 countries around the world are expected to participate and share the latest medical technologies and research achievements in the field of microsurgery.
This achievement is the result of a public-private partnership, combining the global network of Daegu W Hospital with HICO's administrative and marketing capabilities.
The accomplishment is also significant as it demonstrates that a local medical institution and a regional government have successfully collaborated to attract an international academic conference, breaking away from the previous structure centered on the Seoul metropolitan area.
During the bidding process, HICO highlighted its experience in hosting the 2025 APEC Summit, UNESCO World Heritage tourism infrastructure, and state-of-the-art convention facilities to differentiate itself from competing cities.
Woo Sanghyun, Director of Daegu W Hospital, stated, "Gyeongju being selected as the host city is a recognition of both our medical capabilities and the city's competitiveness. We will do our utmost to ensure the success of this international academic exchange."
Yoon Seunghyun, CEO of HICO, said, "Through this achievement, Gyeongju's competitiveness as an international conference city has been reaffirmed. Based on our experience hosting the APEC Summit, we will also successfully prepare for the 2030 conference."
