Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province has secured new public health doctors, averting a feared medical service gap crisis.
According to the county on April 21, there had been significant concern about the potential collapse of the essential healthcare system in the region, as the service terms of all 12 incumbent public health doctors had expired.
However, the county, in cooperation with South Chungcheong Province, secured seven surgical medical personnel, ensuring the continued operation of the emergency room and clinics at health centers, thereby addressing the urgent needs in critical medical settings.
A county official announced that on April 20, 10 new public health doctors (seven in surgery, two in Korean medicine, and one in dentistry) were assigned to Cheongyang Public Health Medical Center and local health centers, minimizing any service gaps.
Kim Sangkyung, Director of the Public Health Medical Center, stated, "Despite the difficult circumstances with a continued decrease in the number of new medical public health doctors, we are fortunate to have secured excellent medical professionals, including seven public health doctors. As Cheongyang has a large elderly population and a high dependency on public healthcare due to a shortage of private medical institutions, we will serve the community with the same care as if treating our own parents."
