316 Happy Housing Units at Gwangju Station and Seorim Village... Lowering Barriers for Young People and Newlyweds

Income Criteria Expanded Up to 150%

Eligibility Periods for Young Adults and Newlyweds Also Relaxed

Gwangju Urban Corporation is easing eligibility requirements for its Happy Housing program for vulnerable housing groups such as young people and newlyweds, and will begin recruiting new tenants. The recruitment covers a total of 316 units at Gwangju Station Dasarooum Happy Housing and Seorim Village Dasarooum Happy Housing.

On April 21, Gwangju Urban Corporation announced that it had relaxed income standards and the application period requirements to reflect the increased housing cost burden on young people due to high inflation and rising interest rates.

The eligible properties are two housing complexes: 177 units at Gwangju Station Dasarooum and 139 units at Seorim Village Dasarooum. The application is open to university students, young adults, newlyweds, single-parent families, the elderly, and recipients of housing benefits. However, recruitment for newlyweds and single-parent families is excluded at the Seorim Village complex. Duplicate applications to both complexes are not permitted.

This round of recruitment features an expanded income standard. The previous limit of 100% or less of the monthly average household income has been extended to a maximum of 150%, depending on the applicant's category. This measure was introduced to provide greater opportunities for dual-income newlyweds and similar groups.

The period requirements have also changed. The recognition period for young adults at the beginning of their careers has been extended from 5 to 7 years. The eligibility period for newlyweds, based on years of marriage, has been expanded from 7 to 10 years. The eligible age for children in single-parent families has been raised from under 6 years old to under 9 years old.

Applications will be accepted from May 11 to May 13. Applicants can apply either via registered mail or by visiting the management office of each complex. The list of successful applicants will be announced on the corporation's website on July 28. Contract signing will take place over a three-day period starting August 10.

A Gwangju Urban Corporation official stated, "This measure is intended to provide a stepping stone for young people and newlyweds to own a home," adding, "We will do our best to develop housing policies that meet the expectations of citizens and make Gwangju a city where people want to stay."
