Dongkuk Steel Group formed a sisterhood relationship with the 2nd Division NODO Unit in 1984. Jang Sewook, then President and now Vice Chairman of Dongkuk Steel Group, systematized this relationship into the “1 Company 1 Barracks” campaign in 2012, expanding exchange activities to include valley trekking, support for fitness equipment, and providing venues for workshops.

Dongkuk Steel Group has continued these events even after the 2nd Division NODO Unit was reestablished as the 2nd Rapid Response Division in 2021 and the company was split into three entities in 2023. This marks the 25th event to date, and the cumulative consolation donations have reached 360 million won.

This year, to commemorate the reopening of the 2nd Rapid Response Division’s history hall, the donation ceremony was held in front of the “Luxteel Lenticular Wall” donated by Dongkuk Steel Group. A lenticular wall refers to a display that changes its appearance depending on the viewing angle. Dongkuk Steel Group explained that it used its top-tier color steel plate manufacturing technology to feature the Dongkuk Steel logo on a military background on the left side and the division’s logo on a metallic background on the right side, symbolizing their close relationship.

After the ceremony, 20 employees from Dongkuk Steel Group and about 20 officers from the 2nd Rapid Response Division split into three teams and participated in a plogging activity-a type of eco-friendly exercise where participants pick up litter while jogging or walking-covering a 1-kilometer area around Yangpyeong Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line for about three hours.

On this day, Vice Chairman Jang also presented ice cream sets for approximately 500 soldiers.

Vice Chairman Jang stated, “We must all work together to build a society in which soldiers are respected,” and added, “Through the 1 Company 1 Barracks campaign, Dongkuk Steel Group will continue to support and engage with the division to boost the morale of its troops.”
