On April 21, Gangbuk-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soonhee) announced that it is recruiting participants for the "Youth Running Crew" program to help young people improve their health and establish regular exercise habits in daily life.
The program is open to young people aged 39 or younger who reside in Gangbuk-gu. The first 20 beginner runners to apply will be selected. Those interested in participating can apply through the integrated reservation board on the Gangbuk-gu Office website by April 30.
Selected participants will join a running program every Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. for one hour, from May 6 to June 17, at Gangbuk-gu Health Center and the area around Ui Stream. Under the guidance of professional instructors, the program will offer beginner-friendly courses, including running posture correction, repeated slow jogging practice, and training on breathing and pace control.
A systematic program is in place, starting with a pre-participation fitness test, followed by step-by-step training, supplementary exercises, and a post-program fitness evaluation. The program will analyze health improvement effects through before-and-after comparisons, such as a step box test for cardiorespiratory endurance measurement, and will also conduct a satisfaction survey.
Even after the program concludes, the district will support the operation of a dedicated community channel for the Running Crew to help participants continue exercising regularly. The program aims to facilitate regular meetups and encourage independent running activities. In the second half of the year, the program is planned to expand with tailored courses for middle-aged and older adults.
District Mayor Lee Soonhee stated, "The key to this project is to help young people start exercising without burden and continue consistently," adding, "We will continue to expand various physical activity programs to promote the health of our residents and foster a vibrant local community."
