Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and emphasized the importance of ensuring normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to China's state-run media outlet Xinhua News Agency on April 20, President Xi stated during the call with Crown Prince Mohammed that "the Strait of Hormuz should remain open to allow for normal passage."

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, he said, "Disputes should be resolved through political and diplomatic solutions," and expressed support for "an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire."

On bilateral relations, President Xi highlighted the principles of mutual respect and reciprocity, and expressed his intention to expand cooperation this year to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. He said, "Let us strengthen practical cooperation and expand exchanges in various fields to set an example of cooperation between China and Arab countries."

In response, Crown Prince Mohammed stated, "The current conflict in the Middle East threatens the security of the Gulf region and is having a serious impact on global energy supply and economic activity." He added, "I hope to strengthen communication with China to maintain the ceasefire and ensure the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."

This call reportedly took place at the request of the Saudi side. President Xi has continued summit diplomacy with the Gulf region following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. On April 14, he met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khalid bin Mohammed Al Nahyan in Beijing to discuss regional developments.
