The Korean Art History Society announced on April 20 that it will hold the "2026 Spring Academic Conference" on the 25th at the Small Auditorium of the National Museum of Korea in Seoul.

원본보기 아이콘This academic conference will cover a broad period ranging from the Goryeo to Joseon dynasties and East Asian exchanges, and is designed as a comprehensive review of the latest achievements in Korean art history research, including Buddhist art, ceramics, painting, and visual culture.
The society explained that this conference reflects recent academic trends that broaden the scope of research beyond conventional style-centered studies to include production environments, social contexts, material culture, and visual experience. Presentations will cover topics such as the background of Buddhist sculpture construction and faith communities, the production and distribution system revealed through inscriptions on ceramics, the political significance of the creation of portraits and royal portraits, and the reception and appreciation of Western media.
There will be a total of nine presentations. In the morning session, Sunhyun Park, a researcher at the Samsung Foundation of Culture, will present "The Octagonal Nine-Story Stone Pagoda at Woljeongsa Temple and the Sagulsanmun Sect in the 12th Century"; Sungjin Lee, a professor at Myongji University, will present "The Characteristics and Functional Classification of Inscriptions on Late Goryeo Celadon"; Yurim Chung, a researcher at the Academy of Korean Studies, will give a presentation on "A Study of the Portraits of Eminent Monks at Gimryongsa Temple in Late Joseon"; and Hankyeol Koo, a researcher at Hongik University, will present "The Restoration of Songdosajangwon Gyehoe-do by Hong Myeonghan, Governor of Songdo, and Its Political Implications."
In the afternoon, Keunja Yoo, a professor at National Suncheon University, will present "Clarifying the Characteristics of Lay Buddhists and Shrine Halls during the Joseon Dynasty"; Gahee Kim, a researcher at Seoul National University, will present "A Study on Jeong Seon's Geumgangjeondo"; Seojin An, also from Seoul National University, will present "Research on the Iconographic Restoration of King Sejo's Royal Portrait and the Actual Process of Creating the Authentic Version"; Sora Nam, a researcher at the Institute for Korean Church History, will present "Reconsidering the Style and Preservation Circumstances of the Cross at Daeheungsa Temple"; and Young Kim, a professor at Ewha Womans University, will present "Qianlong Emperor's Appreciation of Glass Paintings."
A representative of the society stated, "We believe this conference will serve as an opportunity to connect traditional research topics and new methodologies, offering a multidimensional understanding of the layered structure of Korean art history."
