On April 20, JTBC announced that it has reached an agreement with KBS to jointly broadcast the 2026 North and Central America World Cup.
A JTBC representative said, "As a result of negotiations over the resale of broadcasting rights with terrestrial broadcasters, we first reached an agreement with KBS." This means that the World Cup, scheduled for June, will now be available on both the comprehensive programming channel JTBC and the terrestrial broadcaster KBS.
JTBC has made a final offer to other terrestrial broadcasters under the same conditions as the agreement with KBS. Depending on the outcome, the number of channels broadcasting the World Cup may increase further.
Back in February, JTBC exclusively broadcast the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. At that time, while the legally mandated universal viewing rights were ensured, there were criticisms regarding the need to consider households that only receive terrestrial broadcasts directly.
JTBC stated that it also plans to continue negotiations with MBC and SBS.
