The data sovereignty AI service "Hansu" was released for free on April 19 through GitHub and Hugging Face. "Hansu" is a local AI-based service that runs directly in the browser, supporting reading, editing, analyzing, and generating major document formats such as HWP, DOCX, PPT, XLSX, and PDF, even in environments with limited internet connectivity.

Developer Bidraft announced that "Hansu" has been implemented as a browser-based multimodal AI service, designed so that AI processing is carried out entirely on the user's device. As a result, documents and input data handled by the user are processed locally without being sent to external servers, and anyone can use the service for free without the need for registration or subscription.

Bidraft has released the relevant office feature source code on GitHub under the MIT license. This move aims to enhance transparency by allowing anyone to directly review, utilize, or verify the features.

The most notable feature of "Hansu" is its document processing capabilities tailored for the Korean work environment. In particular, it stands out by enabling direct handling of HWP documents-widely used in public institutions and administrative offices-within the browser. Users can leverage AI chat, document editing, data analysis, meeting minutes summarization, as well as image and video recognition features, all within a single interface.

Bidraft believes that "Hansu" can serve as an alternative that addresses the limitations of existing cloud-based AI services. Currently, most AI services process user-inputted data on external servers, which creates adoption barriers in environments dealing with sensitive information, such as enterprises, public institutions, medical, financial, and legal sectors. "Hansu" focuses on enabling the use of AI functions while maintaining data control in such environments.

This service operates based on WebGPU, and after downloading the necessary resources for its initial run, its main features can be used even offline. This extends its applicability to situations where internet access is difficult, such as internal networks, network-segmented environments, business trips, and field work.

Bidraft plans to provide various distribution methods depending on the usage environment. Users can launch the service immediately via web links in the browser, use it as a browser extension, or deploy it as a downloadable or USB-based portable version, thereby increasing its usability in closed or isolated networks. A native smartphone app is currently under development.

An internal network-exclusive deployment option for enterprise customers is also available. Bidraft will support on-premises deployment of "Hansu" on edge devices, addressing the needs of organizations seeking to operate their own AI infrastructure without relying on cloud services.

The background for offering the service for free is also clear. Since "Hansu" runs directly on the user's device, the costs associated with server operation and user data storage are relatively low compared to typical cloud-based AI services. Bidraft explained that this structural characteristic is why it prioritized releasing the free version.

The free version released this time includes an application model based on Gemma 4 2B, reconfigured for browser operation. Bidraft announced plans to sequentially apply the Darwin series of mid-sized models to its enterprise versions in the future.

Bidraft stated that its technological capabilities have been validated in both global and domestic AI benchmarks and communities. According to the company, the Darwin series models achieved top results in high-difficulty reasoning benchmarks and domestic AI leaderboards, while numerous open models have helped expand its user base both in Korea and abroad. Bidraft continues to collaborate with overseas partners such as Hugging Face and Afford-X, and is also engaged in ongoing joint development with domestic partners including Dabolink, IPNow, Warecube, and GenieGenAI.

Additionally, Bidraft noted that it has leveraged its experience in government-supported AI research projects to translate research achievements into real products. The company has distributed numerous open models via Hugging Face to drive community adoption and is concurrently developing next-generation foundation LLMs.

A Bidraft representative commented, "'Hansu' embodies our commitment to protecting Korea's data sovereignty through technology and to providing users with a next-level work experience. Our goal is to create an environment where enterprises, public institutions, and general users alike can utilize AI without concerns about data leakage."

The representative added, "We will continue to advance our browser-based local AI technology, expanding services that can be applied across all aspects of real-world work-including documents, voice, and video."
