원본보기 아이콘A Chinese woman who left her office job and returned to her hometown to raise tens of thousands of venomous snakes, earning over 200 million won annually, is drawing attention.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on April 20, the woman at the center of this story is surnamed Chin, born in 1995 and originally from Guilin, Guangxi Province, China. After graduating from university and working in an office job, she returned to her hometown about two years later to help with her father's snake farm.
Currently, Chin manages over 60,000 snakes, including more than 50,000 highly venomous pit vipers and over 10,000 cobras. Initially, her father strongly opposed his daughter’s participation due to the risks involved. However, as the scale of the operation grew and it became difficult for him to handle alone, Chin eventually took on the responsibility in earnest.
According to Chin, dried snakes, snake gallbladders, and snake oil are used as ingredients in traditional medicine, while collected venom is supplied for medical research.
After undergoing specific procedures, the snakes can secrete venom twice a month. Depending on quality, snake venom is traded at 40 to 200 yuan per gram, while snake meat is sold at 200 to 300 yuan per snake, with larger ones fetching over 1,000 yuan. Even after deducting various expenses, it is reported that she earns more than 1 million yuan annually (approximately 210 million won).

She commented, "If someone who raises snakes says they are not afraid of being bitten, it must be because they have never been bitten before," adding, "When it actually happens, the pain is excruciating and the memory of it is hard to forget."
Netizens have shown their support with comments such as, "She definitely deserves to earn 200 million won," "No thief would ever dare enter there," "It's touching that she helps her father," and "Just looking at them makes me shudder-how can she raise them? I respect her."
