The Busan Metropolitan Government announced on April 20 that an investigation into the road surface subsidence area near the Mandeok~Centum Urban Expressway, where an incident occurred on April 5, found no cavities within the construction section.
From April 5 to 7, the city, together with the Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, conducted a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) scan and a detailed investigation. The scope of the investigation covered not only the construction site but also adjacent roads.
As a result, no cavities were found in the recently subsided section or nearby roads, alleviating concerns about further ground collapse.
However, three minor cavities, 7 to 15 centimeters deep, were found in an existing road outside the influence range of the construction area. The city immediately reported these findings to the relevant road management authority and plans to determine the cause through confirmatory excavation and carry out prompt restoration.
The Busan Metropolitan Government will continue to monitor the Mandeok~Centum Urban Expressway section on a regular basis, combining scheduled GPR scans and visual inspections, particularly focusing on areas vulnerable to ground subsidence.
A city official explained, "We will respond proactively to any abnormal signs to minimize inconvenience to citizens."
