Gangwon Province Intensifies Inspections of Major Spring Festivals... "Creating a Safe Tourism Environment"

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province is conducting joint on-site inspections with relevant organizations for major local festivals expected to draw large crowds during the peak spring festival season, and is making every effort to prevent safety accidents.

The province is particularly focusing its management on six large-scale festivals that attract the most visitors. Among these, the Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival and the Yeongnangho Cherry Blossom Festival concluded without any safety incidents, thanks to thorough advance inspections.

The province plans to apply a rigorous safety management system to upcoming spring festivals as well, aiming to create a "trusted and safe festival environment."

Recently, the success of the movie "The King and His Man" has drawn attention to the Danjong Cultural Festival, one of Gangwon's representative festivals.

As of April 16, this film has attracted a cumulative audience of 16.48 million, increasing public interest in related historical and cultural content.

The Danjong Cultural Festival in Yeongwol is scheduled to be held for three days, from April 24 to 26, and is expected to offer more diverse programs for visitors compared to previous years.

Last year, about 100,000 people attended the festival. This year, due to the movie's popularity, the number of visitors is expected to reach around 150,000, heightening the need for crowd safety management.

In response, Yeongwol County will deploy a total of 232 safety personnel, an increase of 100 compared to last year, and completed a safety management plan review on April 10.

Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and Yeongwol County will conduct a joint on-site safety inspection on April 22 and 23 to preemptively eliminate potential risks.

In particular, as the number of weekday passengers using the Cheongnyeongpo ferry service is expected to surge to 2,000 to 3,000, and 5,000 to 6,000 on weekends-far exceeding the previous maximum of 700 per day-a special joint inspection of this facility will also be carried out with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Yeo Junghyup, Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "As we expect many tourists to visit festival venues across the province this spring, we will do our utmost to ensure that both residents and visitors can enjoy the festivals with peace of mind. We also ask all visitors to actively cooperate by following safety guidelines and maintaining order at the venues."
