This project involves eight islands in five local governments across the country: Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province (Jebudo and Gukhwado), Seogwipo City in Jeju Province (Gapado), Boryeong City in Chungnam Province (Wonsando), Yeosu City in Jeonnam Province (Geumodo and Nangdo), and Tongyeong City in Gyeongnam Province (Yonghodo and Sangdo).

The contest aims to discover stay-type tourism content that utilizes the unique resources of each island, thereby expanding the inflow of residents and revitalizing the local economy. Three companies will be matched to each island to jointly plan and operate programs. Companies in the tourism, travel, or content sectors (both corporations and sole proprietors) are eligible to participate.

Applications can be submitted online through the Korea Tourism Industry Portal "Tourraj" from April 20, 2026, to May 4, 2026. Participating companies will be selected through a review by the Korea Tourism Organization.

Selected companies will receive demonstration support funds of up to 63 million won, as well as a comprehensive support package including: customized mentoring by island and region, on-site expert matching, networking for collaboration with local governments and residents, and integrated publicity and marketing support.

The project will run from May to November 2026 and will be managed and operated by the Korea Tourism Organization. For detailed information regarding the contest, inquiries can be made to the Synergy Island Project Operations Office.

Baek Youngmi, Director of Culture and Tourism, stated, "Through a cooperative structure involving the public sector, private sector, and local residents, we will strengthen the tourism competitiveness of Jebudo and Gukhwado, and build a sustainable island tourism model."
