NBC: Trump Approval Rating Drops to 37%, Lowest of Second Term Amid Inflation and Iran War Concerns

A recent poll revealed that the approval rating for U.S. President Donald Trump has plummeted to 37%. This decline is attributed to growing dissatisfaction with his economic policies and heightened concerns over the war with Iran.

According to a poll conducted by NBC and SurveyMonkey on April 19 (local time), only 37% of respondents gave a positive assessment of President Trump's job performance.

This marks the lowest approval rating recorded by any NBC News poll since the start of President Trump’s second term.

The survey was conducted online from March 30 to April 13, targeting 32,433 American adults. The margin of error is ±1.8 percentage points.

Respondents identified the economy (29%) as the most important issue for Americans, followed by threats to democracy (24%), healthcare (12%), and crime and safety (10%). When asked specifically about the most pressing economic issue, 45% cited inflation and the rising cost of living.

However, only 32% of Americans said they approved of President Trump’s handling of inflation and the cost of living, while 68% disapproved. Among those, 52% said they “strongly disapprove,” and 16% said they “somewhat disapprove.”

The share of Americans strongly opposed to President Trump’s inflation response increased by 7 percentage points compared to previous polls in June and August last year, where the rate stood at 45%.

Forty percent of respondents said their financial situation had worsened compared to a year ago, more than double the 19% who said it had improved.

Following the war with Iran, oil prices have soared, with about two-thirds of respondents saying that gasoline prices have become a problem for themselves and their families. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the nationwide average price of gasoline stood at $4.048 per gallon as of the survey date. On February 28, the day the war with Iran began, the price was $2.98 per gallon, below the $3 mark.

On April 7, while the poll was ongoing, President Trump announced a temporary ceasefire with Iran. Nevertheless, 67% of respondents said they disapproved of the Trump administration’s response to the war with Iran, while only 33% viewed it positively. However, among MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters, 87% approved of President Trump’s handling of the war.

Sixty-one percent of respondents said the United States should not take further military action against Iran. In contrast, 23% said all options should be considered, including deploying ground troops, and 16% said military operations should continue but be limited to airstrikes.
