Samsung SDS announced on April 20 that it has completed the next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) system implementation project for Samsung Electro-Mechanics. This project marks the first case based on the ‘RISE with SAP Premium Supplier’ platform, which Samsung SDS secured in September last year.
For this project, Samsung SDS applied its ‘system downtime minimization’ technology, enabling the migration of large-scale data while maintaining business continuity. This technology allows data migration and system conversion to take place during system operation, reducing disruptions to business processes.
In practice, the downtime required for converting 8.5 terabytes (TB) of data on the SAP HANA database was reduced from 140 hours (5.8 days) to 34 hours (1.4 days), achieving a reduction of over 76%.
With the adoption of SAP’s next-generation ERP system, Samsung Electro-Mechanics enhanced IT efficiency and data processing performance. By utilizing data volume management (DVM) technology, the SAP HANA database capacity was reduced by approximately 35%, from 8.5TB to 5.5TB. This reduced system load while improving management efficiency. Additionally, the performance improvements in key systems such as manufacturing, finance, and cost management boosted work efficiency by more than 25%.
Based on its more than 30 years of experience in ERP consulting, implementation, and operations, Samsung SDS is accelerating cloud ERP migration projects using the Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP). In addition to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, the company is currently carrying out cloud ERP migration projects for clients in service and distribution sectors.
Park Junho, Head of the MIS Group at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, stated, “For this project, we moved away from traditional approaches by prioritizing process integration and standardization. By applying these changes simultaneously across all subsidiaries, we dramatically reduced both the project duration and costs. Notably, this is the first case in Korea to integrate distributed core data from ERP, MES, and SCM into a single Business Warehouse (BW) database, establishing a real-time analytics environment.”
Song Haegu, Executive Vice President and Head of the Solution Business Division at Samsung SDS, said, “This case is not only the first of its kind in Korea, but also the first among Samsung affiliates to successfully complete a cloud ERP migration based on the premium supplier platform. As the only company in Korea capable of providing services across the entire ERP spectrum-including consulting, implementation, operation, and cloud infrastructure-Samsung SDS will continue to lead cloud ERP migration for a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, services, distribution, finance, public sector, and defense, while further expanding its business.”
