Gangneung City in Gangwon Province announced that it will offer major tourist attractions at citizen-level admission fees for students currently enrolled in local universities.
This initiative aims to expand cultural experiences for young people and give university students from other regions the opportunity to experience life in Gangneung, thereby fostering affection for the city and laying the foundation for them to settle down locally.
The main benefits include: ▲Free admission to Ojukheon and the City Museum ▲Entry to Jeongdong-Simgok Bada Buchegil at a discounted rate of 3,000 won (a 40% discount compared to the regular admission fee of 5,000 won) ▲20% discount on accommodation at Ojukh Hanok Village.
To provide these benefits in earnest starting in July, the city has issued a legislative notice for amendments to the management ordinances of related facilities such as 'Jeongdong-Simgok Bada Buchegil' and 'Ojukh Hanok Village'.
Currently, out of approximately 14,000 university students in Gangneung, about 10,000 are from other regions. As a result, the majority of local university students are expected to experience meaningful cultural welfare benefits.
Ha Jungmi, Director of Planning and Budget at Gangneung City, said, "We hope that local university students will be able to enjoy Gangneung's beautiful nature and history without burden and develop a sense of belonging to the region," adding, "We will continue our efforts to make the city a vibrant and enjoyable place for young people to live."
