LG Innotek Wins 100 Billion Won Order for Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Modules

Supply Contract Signed with Major European Automotive Parts Company
Mass Production to Begin in 2027
Data Transmission Speed Tripled

On April 20, LG Innotek announced that it would supply its state-of-the-art 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module', which incorporates cutting-edge Wi-Fi technology, to a major European automotive parts company. The contract is valued at approximately 100 billion won, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2027.

LG Innotek's 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' will be integrated into the AVN (Audio·Video·Navigation) systems produced by a German automotive electronics client and is ultimately slated for supply to global automakers.

Having accumulated unrivaled automotive wireless communication technology since 2005, LG Innotek has further solidified its position as a global leader in the vehicle connectivity market through this contract.

The 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' from LG Innotek supports an ultra-wide bandwidth of 320 MHz per channel-double the bandwidth of Wi-Fi 6E (6th generation extended). As a result, the data transmission speed is more than three times faster.

The product incorporates 4K-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) technology. QAM refers to a technology that converts digital data into analog signals for wireless transmission; a higher QAM value allows more data to be transmitted at once. Wi-Fi 7 supports 4096 (4K) QAM, which is four times higher than previous standards. Thanks to this, LG Innotek's 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' can process 20% more data per signal transmission compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, LG Innotek has equipped the 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' with two antennas using MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology. This ensures that no signal is missed, minimizing signal loss. Even when multiple devices in the vehicle are connected and exchanging large amounts of data, users can enjoy ultra-fast Wi-Fi without interruption.

The 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' integrates more than 150 components, including Qualcomm's communication chip, RF circuits, and antennas. The module is compact and slim, roughly one-sixth the size of a credit card. Reflecting the needs of automotive customers who favor component platformization, it has been released in the same size as previous products to ensure compatibility.

This product maintains durability in extreme temperatures, ranging from minus 40°C to 105°C. It is resistant to deformation even when exposed to heat generated during large-capacity content transmission or prolonged low temperatures from outdoor parking in winter. This durability is achieved by expanding the surface area of the circuit junctions to withstand repeated contraction and expansion.

LG Innotek has begun actively promoting the 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' to European and Japanese automaker customers, starting with this contract.

The company also plans to expand the applications of the 'Automotive Wi-Fi 7 Communication Module' beyond AVN to areas such as RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment) systems, TCU (Telematics Control Unit), and DCU (Domain Control Unit).

President Moon Hyuksu stated, "In particular, automotive AP module sales are expected to ramp up in earnest from the fourth quarter of this year, and as a result, mobility solution sales are projected to accelerate, growing by an average of 20% annually for the time being. LG Innotek will continue to lead the market by introducing innovative solutions that provide differentiated driving experiences."
