Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party's preliminary candidate for mayor of Daegu, announced the "Industrial Structure Transformation of Daegu" as his first pledge on the 19th.

He also announced five key pledges: ▲Great Industrial Transformation of Daegu and Job Creation ▲Construction of the Integrated Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport ▲Revitalization of the People's Economy, including support for self-employed and small business owners ▲Turning Daegu into a City of Opportunities for Youth ▲Metropolitan Administrative Integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
Kim stated, "Through the 'Great Industrial Transformation of Daegu' initiative aimed at economic recovery and industrial structure innovation, we will revitalize the long-stagnant regional economy and address the outflow of young people."
He also declared that artificial intelligence technology would be incorporated across both traditional manufacturing and the entire service sector. By leveraging Suseong Alpha City in the east-a hub for ICT infrastructure-he pledged to invest 55 billion won in national and city funds to foster AI technology. Furthermore, he announced plans to bring a global campus of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) to Suseong Alpha City and to nurture 5,000 AI transformation (AX) specialists in collaboration with local universities and research institutes by 2030.
For youth, his pledges included deregulation through a Mega Sandbox and the creation of a youth startup sub-fund.
To make Daegu a central city for industrialization, Kim proposed ▲attracting anchor companies ▲supporting Daegu companies with a 15 trillion won National Growth Fund ▲designation as a mega-special district ▲completion of the Second National Industrial Complex project.
Kim emphasized, "This initiative is not just a simple plan but a concrete strategy born out of a sense of urgency to fundamentally reform Daegu's industrial sector. We will enhance industrial competitiveness and create an environment where young people choose to stay, making Daegu a vibrant city."
