Micron, one of the global "Big 3" memory semiconductor companies, is expected to establish a promotional foothold in South Korea.
According to industry sources on April 19, Micron has recently begun the process of selecting a PR agency to strengthen its communication with the Korean media and external stakeholders. This move is interpreted as an effort to enhance its presence in South Korea, where Micron has received relatively little attention compared to the strong influence wielded by Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.
Micron is currently supplying its fifth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM3E) to Nvidia, a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Last month, Micron drew attention by announcing the shipment of its next-generation product, the sixth-generation HBM4.
According to market research firm Omdia, Micron held a 23.9% share of the global DRAM market last year, ranking third behind SK hynix (35.2%) and Samsung Electronics (34.6%).
Compared to Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, the "two powerhouses" of the global memory semiconductor industry, Micron faces a significant shortage of both production capacity and engineers. As a result, Micron is accelerating its efforts to secure semiconductor talent by expanding its production bases in Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Singapore, and India.
Recently, the company has been recruiting experienced engineers from Korea through LinkedIn and has even held recruitment briefings at major Korean universities, offering the unprecedented condition of "same-day hiring."
Amid the strong nationwide interest in semiconductor stock investments, the company is also believed to be aiming to actively promote its achievements to so-called "Seohak Ants"-Korean retail investors in overseas markets-to ensure its corporate value is properly recognized.
