IKEA Korea Hosts 'IKEA Together Fika' Event for Job Seekers with Disabilities

Held in Celebration of Korea's Day of Persons with Disabilities on April 20

IKEA Korea announced on April 18 that it held the 'IKEA Together Pica' event, inviting job seekers with disabilities to introduce its inclusive hiring culture and work environment in celebration of Korea's Day of Persons with Disabilities on April 20.

The 'IKEA Together Pica' event, held at IKEA Gwangmyeong, was organized to focus on individual talents rather than disabilities and to facilitate open communication about a more inclusive recruitment culture and work environment. Approximately 50 job seekers with disabilities, as well as representatives from support organizations for the employment of people with disabilities, participated in the event, which provided an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of IKEA and to experience its actual work environment and job roles in a realistic way.

Two current IKEA employees with disabilities participated in the event and shared their personal experiences and stories. In addition, a job introduction and Q&A session allowed for a wide range of questions about recruitment information and the work environment.

This program was inspired by the Swedish cultural practice of 'FIKA.' 'Fika' refers to a time for conversation over coffee and snacks, emphasizing the importance of understanding and connecting in a relaxed atmosphere. Through this format, IKEA Korea aimed to help participants naturally experience the organization’s culture and ways of working.

'IKEA Together Pica' is part of the internal awareness campaign 'See My Talent.' Based on IKEA's talent philosophy, 'Everyone is seen as a talent,' the campaign was designed to promote understanding and empathy among employees. As part of the campaign, IKEA Korea is producing and sharing content for employees across various internal channels, featuring three coworkers with disabilities demonstrating their capabilities in their own unique ways.

An IKEA Korea representative stated, "This event was organized so that everyone, regardless of disability, can directly experience an environment where they can grow based on their own talents. We will continue to engage with more people through various types of gatherings and further expand our inclusive hiring culture."
