The Buyeo National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, under the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, announced on April 20 that it will be operating the archaeological experiential education program "From Today! I Am Also an Archaeologist" 12 times for third-grade elementary school students in the Buyeo area until June 19.
This program is being conducted pursuant to a business agreement signed last April with the Buyeo Office of Education in South Chungcheong Province. Through activities such as a field trip to the Gwanbuk-ri Historic Site, which is a key Baekje royal capital heritage, archaeological excavation experiences, and artifact observation, the program aims to foster students’ interest in local buried cultural heritage.
The program is structured in three stages: pre-learning, field learning, and post-learning. In the pre-learning stage, students examine images of the excavation site of the "Baekje Historic Areas" (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and organize the historical background of the Gwanbuk-ri Historic Site using mind maps.
During the field learning stage, students participate in quizzes, site tours, excavation experiences, and roof tile end (sumaksae) drawing activities. In the post-learning stage, students review what they have learned by making three-dimensional pop-up books of the main features of the Gwanbuk-ri Historic Site.
An official from the institute stated, "We have revamped the experiential learning materials to be suitable for students' perspectives and organically connected the flow of each learning stage, thereby enhancing the educational effect."
